Back-to-School Blessing

Back-to-School Blessing

This Sunday, August 20, at the 10:00 am service we will bless all students, teachers, and administrators before they begin their official school year later in the week. All retired teachers are also welcome to be blessed, as are coaches, teacher’s aids, and parents who are looking forward to the school year but dreading science fairs. In other churches they often bless backpacks; I think this is as much about the blessing as it is about alliteration. I will gladly bless backpacks, but as a parent I also understand that it’s just one more thing to put in the car on an already hectic Sunday morning, and you don’t want it to get lost or scuffed up before the first day of school.

Ne tamen ignores variorum jura dierum: Non habet officii Lucifer omnis idem. Vindicat Ausonias Junonis cura Kalendas: Idibus alba Jovi grandior agna cadit: Nonarum tutela deo caret. Omnibus istis — Ne fallare, cave — proximus Ater erit. Omen ab eventu est, illis nam Roma diebus Damna sub adverso tristia Marte tulit. Haec mihi dicta semel, totis haerentia fastis, Ne seriem rerum scindere cogar, erunt.
